5 STEPS TO FACE YOUR FEARS
Let’s be honest – fear is something we all deal with, and this October, we’re gonna conquer a few. I’m going to give you the steps to break through those walls that have been holding you back. Here’s the good news: fear doesn’t have to control you. By breaking it down, confronting it, and taking small consistent action, you can take control back from fear.
STEP 1. IDENTIFY YOUR FEARS
First things first, you can’t fight what you can’t see. Take a few minutes – right now – to reflect on what’s holding you back. Are you afraid of making the wrong decision? Are you afraid of judgement? Are you afraid to step outside your comfort zone? Are you afraid that if you don’t do something perfectly, you’ll fail? Write it down, whatever it is. This way, you can see it.
Why this matters: Naming your fear is like flipping a light on in a dark room. Once you can see it clearly, it can lose some of its power right away, and you can begin to fight against it
STEP 2. BREAK IT DOWN
Big fears can feel overwhelming because we think of them as one giant immovable problem. But the truth is, many fears are made up of smaller parts. When you break your fear down into bite-sized pieces, the entire fear can become more manageable. Instead of thinking you’re afraid to start a business, reframe it into smaller steps like research, networking, creating a plan.
Why this matters: When you tackle your fear one small piece at a time, it can be less intimidating. Remember – progress is progress, no matter how small.
STEP 3. REFRAME YOUR MINDSET
Fear often comes from how we look at things. Don’t see fear as a hurdle in your way but as an opportunity to learn and grow – a challenge. It’s all about how you look at it. When a fear crops up practice positive self-talk saying something like “this is hard, but I’ve handled hard things before.”
Why this matters: Your mindset is everything. Not just fear but everything. Any battle is first one in the mind. Fear is a temporary challenge. It isn’t permanent. It doesn’t have to define you
STEP 4. TAKE SMALL CONSISTENT ACTIONS
Action beats fear every time. Once you’ve broken your fear down into smaller bites, start taking daily action if possible. Send the email, have the difficult conversation, research you next move. Momentum is the key.
Why this matters: Each small action you take chips away at the power of fear. You build your confidence by doing and the fear that once held such sway, no longer has any power at all.
STEP 5. REWARD YOURSELF
This is a big one. Celebrate the wins no matter how small they might be. When you take a step towards conquering your fear, doing something that shows yourself you’re making progress. It doesn’t have to be huge. Could just be dinner with your kids, a walk with your significant other or a friend, or taking 20 minutes to enjoy some of your favorite coach’s videos on social 😉
We can’t avoid fear entirely, but we can learn to manage and overcome it. Identify it, break it down, change your mindset, take small actions, and reward yourself for the wins. So what fear are you going to conquer today? Start small, start now, watch those fears come crumbling down.
